VERN WEAVER says he sees JAKE HITCHENS at all the swimming pools in York County and Jake says he can't go anywhere without seeing Vern. They must be trying to make all the pools look like Muscle Beach. BOB HOFFMAN is worried about USA chances in this year's World WL Championships in Iran in November. The boys should be gathered here for our Big Annual Bob Hoffman Birthday Show on October 19th, held a bit early in case the Team shoves off early for Teheran. Some. of the star physique men will attend this show, including Ron Lacy, Steve Klisanin, Gene Bohaty, Tom Sansone and others. Plus some of the best lifters in the whole wide world. Upon departure for my new assignment as Chief, Athletic Section, Special Activities Division, Headquarters, United States Army, Europe, APO 245, in Nurnberg, Germany, I take this opportunity to express my appreciation for the cooperation and assistance you have so graciously given the Army Sports Program during my tenure as Chief, Sports Branch, Department of the Army.
My associations with you and representatives and officials of the Amateur Athletic Union have been one of the highlights of my military career. The interest and enthusiasm which you personally have shown in our program and your willingness to cooperate and give of your time and support has been most gratifying and is appreciated.
My replacement as Chief, Sports Branch, Department of the Army, with whom you will be working in the future will be Major Gene Myers. Major Myers, alumnus of University of Kentucky, has been connected with sports for many years and is dedicated to the sports program. He has been assigned to my office the past year and is well informed on the overall policies and intricate problems involving the Department of the Army Sports Office. Although he is well versed in sports programming and administration, he will appreciate your guidance and assistance from time to time. I know he will enjoy this association and will cooperate with you in any possible to further advance the cause of sports for all.
